My wife has very small wrist - maybe 5.25 in, and has small hands and slender fingers. She does not want anything larger than her 26mm. For her, it is not about being seen with a rolex watch - as she has jewelry (and wears it) that is easily 3x-5x more than her rolex. She wants a stylish watch that tells time, is durable, waterproof, automatic, and compliments her jewelry. She could pull off a 28mm or 31mm, but I doubt she'd go for it. Personal taste I know, but I don't think a really large watch, especially loose and flopping around on her wrist, is all that attractive (to me). B ut as other above have said, who cares and you do you.
